Haryana rolls out digital payments, online OPD registration at 610 health centres

Panchkula, Oct 25 (UNI) Haryana has taken a decisive leap towards digitising public healthcare as UPI-based payments go live at 610 government health institutions and online OPD registration is expanded to let patients book appointments from home, cutting waiting times and reducing congestion at hospital counters.
Additional Chief Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Sumita Misra, said the state-wide initiative marks a major step in making healthcare more accessible, transparent, and patient-centric by replacing cumbersome manual processes with secure digital alternatives.
Under the new system, patients can use UPI to pay charges for outpatient department (OPD) registration, inpatient department (IPD) services, medico-legal cases, and other healthcare needs across all 23 district civil hospitals, 52 civil and sub-civil hospitals, 121 community health centres, and 414 primary health centres. The facility has also been extended to Civil Surgeon offices in every district.
Alongside cashless payments, the Health Department has scaled up its OPD pre-registration facility, allowing patients to complete registration from home before arriving at the hospital.
The service is now available at 23 district civil hospitals, 31 civil and sub-civil hospitals, and other centres linked to the e-Upchar Hospital Management Information System.
Patients who book online must visit the hospital on their scheduled date and time, where dedicated pre-registration counters will facilitate their entry.
To further ease rush during peak hours, the department has introduced Scan and Register facilities at 118 health institutions operating under the e-Hospital system, including centres down to the primary health centre level. This enables patients to register for OPD services without standing in conventional queues.
Dr. Misra said the integration of UPI payments and online registration would provide citizens with secure, transparent, and convenient digital services while streamlining hospital administration.
She stressed that the shift to digital is inclusive, not exclusionary. Conventional walk-in registration and cash payment facilities will continue to operate at all government hospitals for those who do not use smartphones or digital payment apps.
The state-wide rollout follows a successful pilot at the District Civil Hospital in Panipat, where the digital payment system was tested before being scaled up. After a state-level workshop on October 13, Civil Surgeons and Deputy Civil Surgeons were directed to implement UPI-based payments by October 16. Officials confirmed the system became operational across all 23 districts within the stipulated deadline.
By bringing digital technology to the front lines of public health, Haryana aims to simplify hospital procedures, improve access, and ensure patients receive faster, more convenient, and timely services.
