Haryana to bestow Rs 185 Crore in cash awards upon 171 Asian Games, Para Asian Games athletes on Oct 30

Panchkula, Oct 24 (UNI) In a landmark move to honour sporting excellence, the Haryana government will disburse Rs 185 crore in cash awards among 171 athletes who proudly represented the state at the 2026 Asian Games and Asian Para Games in Japan.
Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini is set to grace the occasion as chief guest at a state-level felicitation ceremony in Bhiwani on October 30.
Announcing the decision on Saturday, Minister of State for Sports and Youth Affairs Gaurav Gautam said the grand ceremony, to be held at Bhim Stadium, would recognise both medal winners and participating athletes through substantial cash incentives commensurate with their stellar performances.
Of the total outlay, approximately Rs 133 crore has been allocated for 134 athletes who competed in the Asian Games, while Rs 52 crore has been earmarked for 37 para-athletes who showcased their grit at the Asian Para Games.
Haryana's contingent delivered a commanding performance at the Asian Games held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4, securing 32 medals: 14 gold, nine silver, and nine bronze.
The state's contribution proved pivotal, with Haryana athletes accounting for 14 of India's 21 gold medals at the Games, even as the nation concluded its campaign with an overall tally of 85 medals.
The state's para-athletes mirrored this success with remarkable prowess at the Asian Para Games, capturing 32 medals, including nine gold, nine silver, and 14 bronze, according to official figures released by the state government.
In aggregate, athletes from Haryana produced an impressive 64 medal-winning performances across both competitions.
Gautam affirmed that the government would honour not only medal winners but also participants, while simultaneously extending employment opportunities to eligible sportspersons under the state's comprehensive sports policy.
However, officials have yet to specify the exact number of athletes who will receive government appointments during the ceremony.
"The state government is leaving no stone unturned in encouraging our sportspersons," Gautam stated, underscoring that generous cash incentives, world-class training facilities, and secure employment avenues are designed to provide enduring support to athletes throughout their careers.
He further elaborated that Haryana's sports policy is anchored in three pillars: financial security, cutting-edge training infrastructure, and sustained assistance to athletes competing on the international stage.
The October 30 ceremony will bring together medal winners and participants from both prestigious events, with the Rs 185-crore payout marking one of the most significant athlete reward distributions undertaken by the state this year.
