Heatwave unabated: Una Sizzles at 43.5°C, hill resorts also scorched by rising temperatures

Shimla, June 11 (UNI) The heatwave continued in Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday, with Una recording a sweltering 43.5°C, only marginally lower than the 44.2°C recorded a day earlier.
Despite the slight dip, the oppressive conditions left little relief as high temperatures scorched not just the foothills but also the hills and tribal regions.
The intense heat forced residents and commuters to take shelter in shaded areas during peak hours, with humidity and dry winds adding to the discomfort. Neri in Hamirpur recorded 41°C, while Bilaspur and Berthin stood at 39.9°C and 38°C, respectively. Mandi (38.0°C) and Sundernagar (37.9°C) also reeled under soaring heat.
Interestingly, even higher reaches of the state are now feeling the brunt of the heatwave. Tourist town Manali recorded a maximum of 31.5°C, nearly five degrees above normal. In a rare occurrence, cold desert locations like Tabo and Kukumseri crossed 30°C, indicating the upward shift of heatwave zones.
Shimla, which recorded 29.6°C on Tuesday, saw a slight drop to 28.5°C today, thanks to passing clouds and a mild breeze. However, the temperature remained about three degrees above normal.
According to the Meteorological Department, there has been no substantial change in maximum temperatures over the past 24 hours, and the average maximums remain “appreciably above normal.” The forecast for the next 24 hours indicates continued dry weather with no major respite expected.
With temperatures consistently rising even in traditionally cooler areas, the heatwave now spans nearly all elevations of the state, leaving health and disaster management authorities on high alert. UNI ML SSP
