Heavy rain to lash Karnataka for 3-4 days

Bengaluru, Oct 16 (UNI) Karnataka is bracing for another spell of widespread rainfall over the next three to four days, with intensified monsoon activity expected across the coastal belt, Malnad region and southern interior districts, while Bengaluru and several other parts of the state remain under a yellow alert.
The forecast has put residents on guard against thunderstorms, lightning and possible waterlogging, particularly in low-lying areas, as rainfall continues across several districts. Commuters and motorists have been advised to exercise caution as wet conditions could disrupt road travel.
Bengaluru recorded 31.8 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours preceding the report, with the city’s automatic weather station registering 31 mm. The HAL station received 5.8 mm, while the Kempegowda International Airport station recorded 0.8 mm. The GKVK weather station reported 7.5 mm.
The coastal region also witnessed significant rainfall, with Brahmavar in Udupi district recording 39 mm. Mangaluru received 2 mm, while the Mangaluru Krishi Vigyan Kendra recorded 3.5 mm.
Rainfall extended to the Malnad region, where Agumbe recorded 12 mm, Balehonnur 11 mm and Mudigere 7 mm. In the interior, Chintamani in Chikkaballapur district received 7.5 mm, followed by Hassan at 2.5 mm and Hiriyur at 1 mm.
Hunsur in Mysuru district, Tamaka Krishi Vigyan Kendra and Hesaraghatta recorded 0.5 mm each.
The rainfall pattern indicates continued precipitation across geographically diverse parts of the state, with coastal Karnataka, the Western Ghats and southern interior districts expected to remain among the areas of concern over the coming days.
Authorities and residents have been urged to remain alert to lightning and thunderstorm risks. People in vulnerable and low-lying locations should watch for local advisories, while motorists are advised to avoid waterlogged stretches and exercise caution on slippery roads.
The yellow alert signals the need for vigilance, though the supplied report does not specify district-wise alert periods or the possibility of rainfall reaching higher warning categories.
