Heroin worth Rs. 1.5 crore seized from ambulance in Meghalaya

Khiliehriar, Oct 12 (UNI) The Meghalaya Police on Monday arrested four inter-state drug traffickers, including a woman, and seized 409.89 grams of heroin worth about Rs. 1.5 crore from an ambulance.
Acting on a specific input about suspected drug traffickers travelling from Silchar in Assam with heroin, the Meghalaya Police conducted vehicle checks at Damcherra in the Kuliang area under the Umkiang Police Patrol Post in East Jaintia Hills district.
During the vehicle check in the early hours of Monday, police found 27 plastic soap-sized boxes containing heroin being transported in a Maruti Ecco ambulance bearing registration number ML-13-B-1459, Shailendra Bamaniya, the district police chief of East Jaintia Hills, said.
The accused have been identified as Alom Hussain Laskar, Nazim Uddin Barbhuiya, Manir Hussain Mazumdar, and Hashina Mamata Choudhury, all of whom are residents of Silchar, the district headquarters of Assam's Cachar district.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the alleged drug traffickers were moving toward Assam's main city of Guwahati from Silchar with the contraband.
“The bust at the entry point of the state from the east is a part of recent state-wide intensive police crackdowns on transit crime networks," the police official said.
Police have registered a case and booked all four accused under the NDPS Act.
