Himachal CM responds to student’s request with Rs 2 crore school building

Shimla, October 1 (UNI)A student’s request during an interaction with Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu in Rohru on Thursday prompted the state government to announce Rs 2 crore for construction of a new building for the PM Shri Government Model Senior Secondary School.
Interacting with the students of the CBSE-affiliated school, the Chief Minister answered their questions and listened to their views and concerns.
A girl student requested a new school building, saying that the number of students had increased after the institution became a CBSE school and classes were now being conducted in two shifts.
Responding to her request, Sukhu announced Rs 2 crore for construction of the new building. He said if the sanctioned amount was insufficient to complete the project, the state government would provide additional funds as required.
The Chief Minister said construction of the new campus would take some time, while emphasising that the state government was focused on developing modern school campuses with better facilities for CBSE schools across Himachal Pradesh.
He said the government was giving special attention to opening CBSE schools in the government sector to provide children, particularly those in rural areas, with better opportunities for quality education. The objective was to make modern and high-quality educational facilities available to students comparable to those offered by private schools.
During the interaction, a student asked the Chief Minister whether his biggest challenge was meeting people's expectations or managing his time.
Sukhu said both were important, but improving the state's financial situation in a timely manner had been his biggest challenge.
He said the state government was working towards making Himachal Pradesh self-reliant and aimed to develop it into one of the leading and prosperous states in the country in the coming years.
A UKG student asked Sukhu about the stories his grandparents used to tell him during his childhood. Recalling his childhood, the Chief Minister said family members would sit around a fire during winter and narrate stories.
He also recalled the story of the ‘Seven Sisters’.
Responding to a question about the growing use of Artificial Intelligence and its impact on children's intellectual development, Sukhu said AI was an important technology in the modern world. However, its effective use required a strong foundation in education and knowledge.
He encouraged students to study with dedication, saying education would help them face the challenges of the future.
On employment opportunities, the Chief Minister said good education was most important for students as it developed their ability to think and understand things and helped them choose the right path in the future.
He said the state government was working to create employment opportunities in the government sector while also promoting self-employment so that young people could create employment opportunities for themselves.
Sukhu said the future of Himachal Pradesh was bright and reiterated the state government's commitment to making the state self-reliant, financially strong and prosperous.
