Himachal minister booked for assaulting NHAI official

Shimla, July 1 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Panchyati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh was booked for allegedly assaulting a National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) Engineer here today.
The incident allegedly took place after a five-story building collapsed at Bhattakuffer in Chamyana in the periphery of the city last morning. The minister is the local MLA of Kusumpti assembly constituency.
NHAI Manager (Technical) Achal Jindal, in an FIR lodged at Dhalli Police station, alleged that he, along with the site engineer Yogesh Verma, was called for a meeting by Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Rural Mangeet Sharma to review the building collapse.
However, the minister, who was at the site inspecting the building collapse, physically assaulted him in a nearby room of a local resident with an earthen pot, causing head injury, he alleged.
He further alleged that when Yogesh Verma intervened, he was also assaulted and both were threatened.
They both escaped and reached Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) hospital for treatment, he claimed.
The police registered the case under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) under section 121 (1), 126 (5), 132 and 3(2).
The NHAI Engineers Association condemned the incident and sought intervention of Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari.
Gadkari, condemning the incident, took to social media X (formally twitter) stating, "The heinous assault on Achal Jindal, Manager, NHAI PIU Shimla, allegedly by the Minister of Panchyati Raj, Himachal Pradesh and his associates, is deeply reprehensible and an affront to the rule of law. Such a brutal attack on public servant performing his official duties not only endangers individual safety but also erodes institutional integrity.
"I have taken serious cognisance of the matter and spoken with Chief Minister sukhuSukhvinderji, urging immediate and exemplary action against all perpetrators. Accountability must prevail, and justice must be delivered without delay," said Gadkari.
Meanwhile, Sukhu said he has assured Gadkari that appropriate action will be taken in accordance with the law. UNI XC SSP
