Dharamshala, June 15 (UNI) An Israeli national, who went for a trek to Triund in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh and was missing since June six, was traced on Sunday from Chattri village forests with the help of local people, police said here.
Kangra District Additional Superintendent of Police Hitesh Lakhanpal told UNI this evening that Samuel Vengrinovich, in his mid 30s, set out for a trek on June six with a group of trekkers in Triund area of Dharamshala.
ASP said that when he did not return by nightfall, an intensive search was carried out, however, after failing to locate him, his friend Ediblam, alerted the McLeodganj police on Monday last.
He said that a group of five tourists had come to Himachal Pradesh for a trip, but Samuel was separated during the trek in the hills of Triund and they had not heard from him since then.
Following the missing report, joint search teams of Kangra police, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) launched extensive operations in snow bound areas but could not trace him.
The search and combing operation in Triund, Indrahar Pass, Jot, and other nearby remote areas did not yield any results.
Today, Samuel was found shouting in the Chattri village forest, which was heard by local youths who rushed to the forest and found him with a fractured leg.
The villagers picked him up and informed the police. He was provided food by the villagers as he was there without food for the last 10 days and had been eating grass and the forest fruits to sustain himself, police said.
