Himachal pomegranates reach Dubai market, 1.3 Tonnes exported from Kullu

Shimla, Oct 22 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh has exported 1.3 metric tonnes of Sinduri variety pomegranates from Kullu district to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, marking another step towards expanding the international market for the state's horticultural produce.
Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said here on Thursday that the state government was taking several steps to strengthen the economic condition of farmers and horticulturists by facilitating access to domestic as well as international markets.
He said the government was extending all possible assistance to farmers to ensure remunerative prices for their produce and help them explore opportunities in global markets.
The latest consignment was facilitated by the Chandigarh regional office of the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA).
The pomegranates were sourced from farmers in Kullu district and the Bhuntar Farmer Producer Organisation (FPO), which has around 600 farmers associated with it.
Sukhu said the government was committed to promoting the export of agricultural and horticultural produce from the state and providing farmers with the necessary support to access wider markets.
He said Himachal Pradesh had earlier exported an initial consignment of 400 kg of cherries and 400 kg of plums to Oman in June this year.
The fruits were supplied by six progressive farmers from the Jadol-Tikkar and Bagi areas of Shimla district.
The Chief Minister urged farmers to focus on cultivating high-quality fruit varieties in line with the requirements of international markets. He said such efforts would help Himachal Pradesh's horticultural produce gain greater recognition globally and improve farmers' income.
The state government, he added, would continue to facilitate market linkages and extend support to farmers to strengthen the horticulture sector and promote exports.
