Hindi Pakhwada marked with cycling, fitness drive in Delhi

New Delhi, Sep 27 (UNI) More than 1,000 people participated in a cycling and fitness drive at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in ITO on Sunday, as the 92nd edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle was held as part of Hindi Pakhwada 2026, according to officials from the Sports Authority of India (SAI).
The event, organised in collaboration with Sulabh International, began at 5.30 am and featured cycling, yoga, Zumba and rope-skipping activities. Participants also took part in a five-km run and cycling ride around the stadium.
Held under the theme “Pedal for Fitness, Ride for a Cleaner India”, the programme sought to link physical fitness with cleanliness and a healthy lifestyle. The association with Sulabh International also brought a focus on sanitation and public health.
The programme began with the felicitation of guests, followed by a Nasha Mukti pledge and the flagging off of the cycling rally.
GP Upadhyay, senior adviser at Sulabh International and a retired IAS officer, said the participation of the organisation was aimed at bringing together the messages of fitness and cleanliness. He stressed the need to continue efforts under the Swachh Bharat mission, saying cleanliness was closely linked to public health and fitness.
Fit India Ambassador Prem Prakash Meena said the enthusiasm among young participants reflected the growing reach of the “Sundays on Cycle” campaign. Endurance athlete and cyclist Sabita Mahato urged people to devote at least 30 minutes to fitness every day and turn exercise into a regular habit.
A game zone was also set up at the venue, with activities including carrom, chess, badminton, tug of war and an obstacle race.
Fit India Sundays on Cycle is organised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in collaboration with the Cycling Federation of India, Raahgiri Foundation and MY Bharat. The weekly cycling initiative is conducted across states and union Territories through Sports Authority of India centres and Khelo India facilities, with more than 6,000 Namo Fit India clubs also participating nationwide.
