Honda to expand EV battery swap network in India

Bengaluru, Nov 28 (UNI) Honda Power Pack Energy India Private Limited (HEID), a subsidiary of Honda Motor Company Limited, has announced the commencement of its battery swap service, Honda e:Swap, for the newly launched ACTIVA e:.
The service will roll out in Bengaluru from February 2025, followed by New Delhi and Mumbai in April 2025.
The announcement was made at Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Private Limited’s (HMSI) launch event for the ACTIVA e: on November 27. The event marked a significant step towards Honda’s global vision of achieving carbon neutrality. The collaboration aims to provide a seamless and innovative battery swapping solution for electric two-wheeler users.
Through the Honda e:Swap service, ACTIVA e: users can access battery swap stations by registering via HEID’s mobile app alongside the vehicle purchase.
HEID plans to establish a robust network of 250 battery swapping stations in Bengaluru, 150 in Delhi, and 100 in Mumbai by March 2026 to cater to the growing demand.
HEID, established in November 2021, initially launched its battery swap service for electric auto-rickshaws. The service allows users to exchange discharged Honda Mobile Power Pack e: batteries for fully charged ones at strategic locations.
By owning the batteries, HEID aims to reduce upfront EV costs, alleviate range anxiety, and ensure uninterrupted usage.
The company has partnered with key entities such as Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited (DMRC), Adani Electricity Mumbai Limited, and HMSI dealerships to deploy battery exchangers at convenient locations.
In August 2024, HEID secured ₹2.2 billion in funding to support the expansion of its battery swap network. HEID President and CMD, Takuya Taniguchi, emphasised the company’s commitment to creating a seamless, reliable service monitored by Honda’s Power Pack Cloud system.
"HEID is dedicated to expanding its battery swap network, ensuring reliable services, and supporting customers for a superior experience," Taniguchi said. "We aim to contribute to a carbon-neutral and greener future for India through battery swap solutions."
