Huge cache of ammunition recovered in Meghalaya

Shillong, June 24 (UNI) A huge cache of ammunition believed to have been hidden by United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) and Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA), has been
recovered from a thick jungle in Meghalaya on Tuesday. police said.

One country-made pistol, 212 rounds of suspected live AK ammunition, 22 suspected anti-aircraft rounds, 13 damaged anti-aircraft rounds without pellets, 11 loose pellets, and 52 rounds of 6.5 mm live ammunition were recovered in the thick jungles near Chikama village under Rongjeng Police station, Stephan A. Rynjah, the district police chief of East Garo Hills, said.

He said the recovery was on the basis of an input from a credible source input on the location ammunition.

Rynjah said the ammunition is suspected to have been hidden by the ULFA and GNLA when these two militant outfits were active in the Garo Hills region.

He said investigation is on go determine the origin and possible links of the recovered arm and ammunition.

Meanwhile, Rynjah urged the public to remain alert and assist law enforcement in safeguarding the region.
