Hyd: Salary of SHG Workers & Staff denied in NIRDPR on Labour Day

Hyderabad, May 1 (UNI) When the entire world is celebrating Workers Day and taking resolve to improve their working conditions, National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Hyderabad has denied salary to SHG workers and staff here on Thursday.
Usually the salary of staff is transferred on the last working day.
When SHG Workers and Employees asked the registrar and the Director Finance the reason behind non-payment of their salaries, they replied that it was decided by the DG (Director General) not to pay salary before the executive council meeting which is scheduled on May 2 in Delhi.
Interestingly, the only representative of employees in the executive council, Dr C Dheeraja has been denied permission to attend the meeting of the Executive Council.
It may be noted that NIRDPR is facing a grant cut by the Government of India from April 2025 onwards.
Although, the institute has sufficient savings from last year and also interest income from the corpus fund created over the years, the Director General's decision to delay salary disbursement has caused shock and disbelief among the employees.
In a meeting held at the Institute premises here this afternoon, many staff shared their problems such as their inability to pay school fees, hospital charges, bank loan EMIs.
They have also decided not cooperate with this Director General till he mends his ways.
It may be known that he had withheld pensions of retired employees last year for more than a month and did not pay the salary of young fellows in the panchayati raj project for about 3 months.
There are around 220 permanent and 450 contractual employees in the NIRDPR.
The Director General and senior management has a plan to remove several contractual staff who are working with NIRDPR for a long time.
Instructions have also been given to reduce the number of SHGs working in the NIRDPR. NIRDPR Employees Association and Academic Association had earlier approached the Union Minister for Rural Development for reinstatement of the grant in aid to the NIRDPR.
However, in the current situation and arbitrary decisions by the Director General of not paying salary to workers and staff, employees are contemplating to stage a peaceful dharna in future and to send representation to higher authorities against the functioning of the Director General.
