Hyd: Woman convicted for data theft from firm

Hyderabad, May 1 (UNI) A lower court in Telangana has sentenced a 35-year-old woman employee to one year's simple imprisonment for data theft and embezzlement of the company's funds, cyber crime police said on Thursday..The XII Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate court found Anasuya Vemuri, a resident of New Nallakunta in the city, guilty of criminal breach of trust of M/s SIS Info Tech Pvt LtdOn January 21, 2009, Arcot K. Balakrishna, the company's Chief Manager lodged a formal complaint with the Cyber Crime Station, alleging that Anasuya Vemuri, a former employee who served as Chief Manager, Editorial Services, from March 1994 to October 2005, had illicitly retained access to the company's sensitive and proprietary information, including intellectual property, trade secrets, digital content, and other confidential data.
The complainant asserted that during her tenure, Anasuya had unrestricted access to the company's main servers and databases, containing valuable assets developed over several years at considerable expense.
Based on this complaint, the police registered a case under section 420 (cheating), 408 (criminal breach of trust by an employee) of the Indian Penal Code, besides under the Information Technology Act.
After the completion of the investigation, the police filed a charge sheet.
After conducting the trial, theXIIth ACJM court found Anasuya guilty and sentenced her to 1 year simple imprisonment and a fine Rs. 25,000 on Wednesday. UNI KNR SSP
