Hyderabad Police arrest man for circulating fake Rs 500 notes in Begum Bazar

Hyderabad, Sep 27 (UNI) Goshamahal police have arrested a 21-year-old man for allegedly circulating counterfeit Rs 500 currency notes among petty vendors in Begum Bazar and seized 16 fake notes with a face value of Rs 8,000 from his possession, police said on Sunday.
The accused was identified as Vikram, a private employee at Balaji Decors in Hyderabad and a native of Pali district in Rajasthan.
He was arrested on September 25 and remanded to judicial custody, according to B Sravan Kumar,Inspector of Police, Goshamahal Police station.
According to a police release, ASI Janardhan Naik and Head Constable Sanjay Kumar Sharma noticed the accused during patrolling near Begum Bazar Chatri at around 9 pm on September 25 and detained him on suspicion.
During questioning, Vikram allegedly disclosed that he was circulating counterfeit Rs 500 notes among petty vendors by obtaining Rs 400 in genuine currency as change for each note. Police recovered 16 counterfeit notes during a search.
The accused allegedly told police that he had obtained the fake currency from his friend Ashok. Police said Ashok and others were absconding and efforts were underway to trace them and identify the source of the counterfeit notes.
Goshamahal police registered a case (Crime No. 359/2026) under Sections 179, 180 and 318(4), read with Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Further investigation is underway.
