In a first, Arunachal rolls out electric buses

Itanagar, June 5 (UNI) In a landmark step toward sustainable development, Arunachal Pradesh has launched its first fleet of electric buses, with operations commencing from this state capital. .
The initiative, flagged off by Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on the occasion of World Environment Day, marks the beginning of a statewide shift towards clean mobility solutions.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu hailed the rollout as a transformative move to reduce carbon emissions, enhance public transport connectivity, and build a greener, more sustainable future for the state.
The electric bus service will soon expand to key towns including Namsai, Tezu, Pasighat, and Roing.
“These e-buses represent more than just a transportation upgrade—they’re a commitment to the health of our people and the planet,” said the Chief Minister. “By adopting clean mobility, we’re not just moving people, we’re moving toward a more sustainable Arunachal.”
The initiative reflects the government’s larger mission to integrate eco-friendly practices into urban infrastructure and promote environmental consciousness across all levels of governance. UNI TD SSP
