In a first, Mahindra Company car rake arrives at Samba's Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal

Jammu, Oct 22 (UNI) In a first, a full rake carrying 108 Mahindra & Mahindra vehicles from Chinchwad in Maharashtra has arrived at the Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal (GSCT) of ACTL Samba Pvt. Ltd. in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir, marking a significant milestone in railway freight transportation in the Jammu Division.
According to a Railway spokesperson, the special rake comprised 27 BCACBM (auto-carrier) wagons carrying 108 Mahindra Scorpio SUVs.
This rake, he said, has reached Jammu after covering a long distance of about 1,992 kilometers, which was extremely economical compared to conventional road traffic. This transportation of such a large number of vehicles at once by rail route is a major achievement for regional bulk logistics.
This successful operation shows the continuous expansion of automobile traffic in Jammu Division.
Earlier in October 2025 also, a rake of about 116 cars of Maruti Suzuki was successfully brought from Manesar, Haryana to Anantnag Goods Terminal, and even at present Maruti vehicles are being loaded and brought by train.
"This is the first time that Mahindra vehicles have been transported by rail to Jammu and Kashmir," he added.
Compared to road, this transportation of cars by rail is not only more economical, safe and fast, but sending goods in bulk at once also drastically reduces the total logistics cost. Use of Railways instead of heavy trucks will reduce traffic congestion on National Highways and also reduce the burden of road maintenance.
Apart from this, due to direct supply of cars by rail route, local dealers will get faster delivery of vehicles, which will boost the automobile market and new employment opportunities in the union Territory.
On this occasion, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Jammu, Uchit Singhal said, "The arrival of this first automobile rake of Mahindra at Samba Terminal is a significant achievement. Under the 'PM Gati Shakti Yojana', this infrastructure is not only reducing logistics cost, but also making transportation environment-friendly. Swift supply of vehicles through direct rail route will empower local dealers and give new momentum to the industrial development of Jammu and Kashmir."
