India sign off athletics campaign with men’s 4x400m relay bronze

Aichi-Nagoya, Sept 29 (UNI) India signed off their athletics campaign at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Tuesday with a bronze medal in the men's 4x400m relay, as Dharmveer Choudhary, Manu TS, Jay Kumar and Vishal TK clocked 3:01.61.
Japan won the gold in 3:00.75, while Qatar secured silver in a season-best 3:00.93. India held off a late challenge from Thailand, with Vishal TK producing a strong closing leg to preserve the bronze.
The Indian quartet stayed in medal contention through the race, but Japan and Qatar established themselves ahead in the closing stages. Vishal kept his composure under pressure to ensure India finished ahead of Thailand.
The bronze meant India could not retain the men's 4x400m relay title they had won at the previous Asian Games, but they still finished on the podium in a closely contested final.
Vishal added another medal to his Games campaign after earlier being part of India's silver-medal winning mixed 4x400m relay team.
The men's relay bronze also capped a productive final day for Indian athletics, with Pooja Singh winning women's high jump bronze and Gulveer Singh completing a three-medal campaign with bronze in the men's 5000m.
India's athletics campaign thus ended with the relay bronze, adding another podium finish to a strong showing across track and field events at Aichi-Nagoya.
