India, US kick off 5th edition of Tiger Triumph 2026 HADR exercise in Visakhapatnam

New Delhi, Nov 3 (UNI) India and the United States have commenced the fifth edition of their bilateral Tri-Service Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) exercise, Tiger Triumph 2026, at Visakhapatnam, with a focus on strengthening joint planning, coordination and interoperability during large-scale disaster response operations.
The opening ceremony was held at the Maritime Warfare Centre (MWC), Visakhapatnam. The exercise, being conducted in a Tabletop Exercise (TTX) format this year, seeks to enhance the ability of the armed forces of both countries to undertake coordinated humanitarian assistance and disaster relief missions.
The ceremony was presided over by Rear Admiral Vishal Bishnoi, Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet, and Rear Admiral Joaquin J Martinez de Pinillos, Vice Commander, US Pacific Fleet.
The latest edition reflects the growing convergence of India-US strategic maritime interests and the deepening defence partnership between the two countries. It also aims to strengthen interoperability and facilitate the conduct of Combined Joint All-Domain Operations, with particular emphasis on planning and coordination for complex, large-scale HADR missions.
The Indian contingent comprises specialists from various domains of maritime operations of the Indian Navy, ground forces from the Indian Army, and representatives from different units of the Indian Air Force. Special Forces personnel from all three Services are also participating in the exercise.
A significant feature of this edition is the participation of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), which is joining Tiger Triumph for the first time. Its inclusion is expected to bring a wider disaster-response perspective to the joint deliberations, integrating military capabilities with specialised civilian disaster management expertise.
The US Joint Force contingent includes specialist representatives from across the US Armed Forces, including the Air Force, Army, Marine Corps and Navy. Experts in Space, Cyber, Medical and Explosive Ordnance Disposal domains are also part of the participating team.
The Tabletop Exercise will provide an opportunity for the two sides to deliberate on operational scenarios, assess coordination mechanisms and refine joint response strategies for humanitarian crises and natural disasters.
Tiger Triumph is an important component of India-US defence engagement, providing a platform for the armed forces of the two countries to exchange operational experience and strengthen their ability to respond collectively to humanitarian emergencies. The participation of all three Indian services and their US counterparts, along with the NDRF, underscores the expanding scope of bilateral cooperation in addressing complex and multi-domain disaster response challenges.
