Gangtok, June 5 (UNI) The popular Sikkim-based hard rock/metal band Girish and The Chronicles rocked out the auditions at US’ America’s Got Talent music-reality show, winning over the audiences and judges with a fiery hard rock rendition of Adele’s song ‘Set Fire to the Rain’.
Formed in 2009 in Gangtok, Sikkim, and now based in Bengaluru, the GATC is one of India’s leading rock bands with substantial international following.
They are well known for tracks such as ‘She’s Heavy Metal’, and ‘Rock’ N Roll is here to Stay’, and their acclaimed cover of heavy metal band Skid Row’s famous song ’18 and Life’.
Coming to the America’s Got Talent show in full 80’s style metal fashion, with long wavy hair, leather jackets, and trousers, the band’s very appearance caught everyone unawares, as the popular US show is not used typically to hard rock and metal bands, and certainly not ones from Asia.
Adding heavy and thunderous riffs to the pop song, with bombastic drums and loud bass, the commanding and soaring vocals of singer Girish Pradhan instantly captivated everyone, turning what was supposed to be an audition into a full-fledged concert.
The group instantly won over everyone in the show, as audiences all stood up and gave the group a thunderous applause. Judges Sofia Vergara, Simon Cowell, Mel B, gave the band a standing ovation, and Howie Mendel also applauded the group.
The collective verdict was unanimous, with GATC instantly qualifying the audition.
