Investigation launched against Tripura Congress leader for 'abusing' CM

Agartala, June 9 (UNI) The police on Monday launched a search against Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) spokesperson Md Sahajan Islam for defamatory narratives and expressions against Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Sunday night in a Facebook live session.
The officer-in-charge of East Agartala police station, Rana Chatterjee, said that Sahajan words have triggered political unrest and hurt the communal sentiment of the people. "He made some derogatory comments on the professional and personal life of the Chief Minister, which is illegal," Chatterjee said.
“Indian law doesn’t permit a citizen to make a personal attack on the head of a state,” Chatterjee said, adding that a specific case has been registered against Sahajan Islam based on a complaint, and police launched an investigation.
According to the report, Sahajan lives inside a mosque in the same vicinity as CM Dr Saha’s parental house. He was making several posts on social media on communal lines alleging that saffron cadres obstructed the celebration of Bakri Eid in several locations of the state, and in a few places, they stopped the transportation of cows.
Police said he also abused Chief Minister in person and police over the allegations. Soon after, a group of BJP cadres from the locality stormed Sahajan’s house and ransacked the property. His mother alleged that they could recognize a few of the BJP state leaders who were with firearms.
