Iran’s Pezeshkian to meet Putin in Moscow on Oct 27

Tehran/Moscow, Oct 24 (UNI) Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian will meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Tuesday during a visit to attend a summit of gas-exporting countries, Iranian media reported on Saturday, citing Tehran’s ambassador to Russia, Kazem Jalali.
The two leaders are expected to discuss economic cooperation and geopolitical issues, the Tasnim news agency reported, citing Jalali.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that talks between Tehran and Moscow would continue next week with both presidents participating.
The meeting comes as Iran and Russia have strengthened ties since Moscow launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Both countries face extensive Western sanctions and have sought to expand economic cooperation and coordinate positions on international issues.
Jalali said the agenda would include the International North–South Transport Corridor, energy and food security, and efforts to expand bilateral trade. No documents are scheduled to be signed during the presidents’ meeting, he said, according to Russian state news agency RIA Novosti.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov visited Tehran earlier this week and held talks with Araghchi and Pezeshkian.
Araghchi said the discussions covered bilateral relations, regional developments and international affairs, with both sides emphasising the implementation of existing agreements and the expansion of political and economic cooperation.
Russia and Iran signed a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty in January 2025 during Pezeshkian’s visit to Moscow, establishing a framework for cooperation in areas including energy, transport, defence, security and trade.
The planned meeting also comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East. Putin said earlier in October that Russia was prepared to participate in mediation efforts to help end the war involving the United States, Israel and Iran.
The summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum is scheduled to take place in Moscow on Tuesday, October 27, according to Tasnim.UNI AAB
