Iranian FM Abbas Araghchi accuses US of causing insecurity in Strait of Hormuz

Tehran, Oct 19 (UNI) Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi today accused the US of creating insecurity in the Strait of Hormuz, which has been at the centre of the dispute.
“The war imposed by the United States and the Zionist regime (Israel), combined with the economic blockade, constitutes the principal source of insecurity in our region,” Araghchi said during a joint press conference with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who was visiting Tehran for talks.
Lavrov was also scheduled to meet Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, with discussions expected to cover bilateral ties and regional security amid concerns that hostilities between Washington and Tehran could resume.
The country’s powerful theocratic paramilitary force, the IRGC, went on to warn that any renewed US military action would be met with a more forceful response.
“The US entered the war with all its might, and it is certainly not in a position now to start a new conflict that would bring it any new gains,” IRGC spokesperson Hossein Mohebi said today.
Mohebi claimed that most US military bases in the region were inactive and that American forces had moved hundreds of kilometres away from Iran.
IRGC deputy commander Mostafa Izadi separately claimed US naval forces had moved around 700km away to avoid Iranian missiles, according to the Guards-affiliated Fars news agency.
Senior IRGC adviser Mohammadreza Naghdi also claimed that Iran’s missile facilities had survived heavy bombardment and that its strategic stockpiles remained intact.
