ISC 2025: An Ode to Visionaries Fueling India’s Space Renaissance, begins

Chennai/New Delhi, June 25 (UNI) Aimed at celebrating India's growing space aspiratons, the
4th edition of the India Space Congress (ISC 2025) opened today at New Delhi.
This three-day celebration of India’s growing space aspirations is themed “Pioneering Innovations
in Space Technology: India’s Journey Towards Global Partnership,” reaffirming the country’s commitment to building a self-sustaining, world-class space ecosystem.
With participation from over 40 countries and more than 800 delegates, ISC 2025 promises to be
a dynamic confluence of global thought leaders, innovators, and policymakers for three days till
June 27.
The event began at a historic juncture, marked by two significant milestones. Earlier this year during DEFSAT, India witnessed the initiation of the SPADEx docking mission.
"Today, as ISC 2025 unfolds, Group Captain Sudhanshu Shukla took off aboard the Axiom Spaceflight, becoming the second Indian to venture into space and carrying with him the aspirations of over a billion Indians", Subba Rao Pavuluri, President of SIA-India, said.
At India Space Congress 2025, delegates witnessed the livestream of Axiom-4’s historic launch, carrying Indian Air Force Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla to the ISS.
The excitement was amplified with Hungary as Country Partner, whose astronaut was also part of the mission. These developments signal India’s steady ascent to the forefront of global space innovation, Subba Rao Pavuluri noted.
The inaugural session was attended by an esteemed lineup of dignitaries including Dr. Thierry
E. Klein, President, Nokia Bell Labs Solutions; Dr. Shailesh Nayak, Director, NIAS and Chair of
the ISC 2025 Organising Committee; Dr. Pawan K. Goenka, Chairman, IN-SPACe; as well as diplomats such as Her Excellency Frances Adamson AC, Governor of South Australia, and His Excellency Philip Green OAM, Australian High Commissioner to India.
A key highlight of the inauguration was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between
SIA-India and the International Institute of Space Law (IISL), underscoring India’s commitment to responsible governance and international collaboration in space affairs. This partnership reflects
the belief that collaboration between government, industry, and academia is the true engine of transformation in the space sector.
“Over the next three days, ISC 2025 will feature 35 thoughtfully curated sessions, offering a comprehensive view of how satellite communications are driving digital transformation, how Earth observation is emerging as a national asset, and how navigation systems like NavIC are enabling precision and sovereignty.
The agenda also looks ahead to frontier technologies such as quantum computing, artificial intelligence, and microgravity manufacturing—domains that are rapidly redefining the boundaries

In a clarion call to the industry, Dr. Shailesh Nayak, Director NIAS, Chair conference organising committee emphasised that “the Space Industry Association (SIA) of India should play a pivotal
role in defining clear specifications to help the private sector plan investments in the Earth observation domain.
With the Defence Space Agency prioritizing high-resolution satellite capabilities and navigation satellites witnessing exponential demand, there is a growing need to assess and expand civilian applications.
The Indian government had transferred Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV) technology from the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) to Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL).
It is now essential for SIA-India to facilitate the outlining of requirements for private investment and identify technologies that can be effectively transferred from ISRO to the private sector to boost indigenous space capabilities.”
Frances Adamson said “South Australia is proud to stand at the forefront of Australia’s growing space partnership with India—advancing global space exploration through shared missions, strategic investments, and research for the benefit of all.
She said that India and Australia, as natural partners, can complement each other’s strengths in this emerging sector.
“Another key milestone of the day was the release of the “PRISM 2.0: Unlocking Trade Potential in India–Australia Space Collaboration” report, capturing actionable recommendations to address
regulatory challenges, harmonise export controls, facilitate investment, and promote cross-border innovation aligned with both countries’ national space policies. Followed by a special international session with Western Australia, focusing on charting a roadmap to accelerate the growth of the space sector in both countries.

to establish a reliable baseline and a transparent framework for the economic valuation of India’s space activities. Estimating the size of the Indian space economy is a strategic initiative — one
that has been long overdue. After all, we cannot manage what we do not measure.” - Dr Pawan K Goenka, Chairman, IN-SPACe, said.
With such powerful momentum, ISC 2025 sets the tone for a transformative journey—uniting visionaries, governments, academia, and private enterprises to shape the future of India’s space journey and its role in global space leadership.
