Jerusalem, May 19 (UNI) Israeli troops have begun demolishing an Indonesian hospital in the northern Gaza Strip, with at least 55 people remaining trapped in the building, Al Jazeera reported.
According to the broadcaster, this is the last medical facility in northern Gaza.
Israeli troops attacked the hospital gates and demolished the northern wall of the besieged facility with a bulldozer, the channel said.
According to Al Jazeera, at least 55 people remain in the building, including four doctors and eight nurses. The channel added that gunfire could be heard around the hospital.
On the night of March 18, the Israel Defense Forces resumed strikes on the Gaza Strip. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the attacks continued because Palestinian movement Hamas had refused to accept a US plan to extend the ceasefire and free the hostages.
The truce between Israel and Hamas officially ended on March 1, but fighting has not resumed due to mediators' attempts to get the parties to continue negotiations on a settlement in Gaza. However, Israel has cut off electricity supplies to a desalination plant in the Strip and closed the entry of trucks carrying humanitarian aid into the Strip.
