Israel to revise stance against Houthis following airport attack

Tel Aviv, May 4 (UNI) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is to convene a high-level meeting to discuss the response to the missile attack from Yemen's Houthis that hit Ben Gurion Airport earlier today. Israel is considering revisiting its policy against the Houthis to respond directly to any such attacks in the future.
The ballistic missile fired from Yemen had earlier hit the main terminal of Ben-Gurion International Airport outside Tel Aviv on Sunday, in what was a rare case of failed missile interception by Israel, resulting in six injuries.
Tel Aviv had stopped its attacks against the Iran-backed-terror group after the Trump administration came to power, though that may no longer be the case.
Defense sources told The Jerusalem Post that there will be a response to the Houthis, but it is too early to say when it will occur.
To address the situation, Prime Minister Netanyahu is to convene a high-level meeting to discuss the response, with a limited number of ministers and senior defense officials in attendance.
A successful strike at the airport, one of Israel’s most high-profile sites, led to the Air Force's aerial defence array to conduct a thorough investigation, though currently nothing has been found.
Israel Defence Forces (IDF) confirmed that multiple attempts were made to intercept the missile but were unsuccessful.
“An impact was identified in the area of Ben-Gurion Airport,” the military said in a statement, adding that the incident is currently under investigation, according to The Times of Israel.
The missile, launched by the Iranian-backed Houthi terror group, prompted a brief suspension of flights at Israel’s busiest airport.

While there were no immediate reports of casualties, the incident caused significant alarm due to the sensitive and high-profile nature of the target.
Claiming responsibility for the attack in a televised statement, Yemen’s Houthi outfit warned of continuing its assaults against the state of Israel, with, the group’s military spokesperson Yahya Saree reiterating a warning to airlines that the Israeli airport was “no longer safe for air travel".
In response, the Israeli Defence Minister, Israel Katz issued a strong statement, saying “Whoever harms us will be harmed by us sevenfold.”
Security officials told the Kan public broadcaster that “after the hit at Ben Gurion Airport, from our perspective, there are no restrictions” for a response against the Houthis.
The Houthis have been launching missiles into Israel for over a year with very little success, as the IDF has been able to intercept almost all of them due to its sophisticated air defence systems. The group has intensified its attacks since Israel ended a cease-fire in its war in Gaza in mid-March.
However, by slipping between its systems and be able to strike such a vital target marks a very rare instance in the Israeli defence system’s failure to intercept such an attack.
