J&K: ANTF recovers 4-kg charas from inter-state smuggler

Jammu, June 3 (UNI) In a major breakthrough against interstate narcotics smuggling, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of Jammu and Kashmir Police has successfully recovered around 4-kg of charas from a narcotic smuggler operating across state lines.
As per the official handout, acting on specific intelligence inputs, a team of ANTF led by SP Tanweer Ahmed Jeelani under the supervision of SSP Mohd Anwar-Ul-Haq, ANTF Jammu, intercepted a suspect who was attempting to transport the contraband from the Kashmir Valley using a motorcycle as a mode of concealment.
“The smuggler had devised a covert method of hiding the narcotics in compartments of the two-wheeler to evade detection,” it read, and it said that, however, due to swift and coordinated action by the field units, the consignment was seized before it could be trafficked further.
The accused has been identified as Mohammad Nasir, 52, a resident of Uttrakhand was arrested on the spot, and preliminary interrogation suggested his involvement in a larger interstate network dealing in cannabis derivatives.
“Further investigation is underway to trace the source and the intended recipients of the consignment,” it read, adding that the motorcycle used in smuggling has also been seized.
“The successful operation underscores the continued commitment of ANTF to dismantle drug syndicates operating in and through the Union Territory,” it further read, adding that the force remains vigilant and committed to ensuring that Jammu and Kashmir does not become a transit route or consumption market for illicit drugs.
Notably, this is the second commercial quantity of narcotics which has been seized during the last ten days.
