J&K Police chief calls September ‘month of joy’ on anti-terror front

Srinagar, Oct 1 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Police chief Nalin Prabhat on Thursday termed September a “month of joy” for them, citing “many operational achievements” in its counter-terrorism efforts across the union Territory.
Addressing the closing ceremony of the Kashmir Marathon–Run for Unity, Director General of J&K Police, Prabhat, said counter-terrorism operations conducted under the guidance of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha had yielded significant results during the month. LG Sinha was the chief guest at the event.
“In an attempt to foil the plans of the impure neighbour, the counter-terrorist operations that we run, in your guidance, September has been a month of joy for us, and a month of many operational achievements,” he said.
September witnessed the killing of two top Pakistani Lashkar-e-Taiba commanders, Hashim Musa alias Asif Fauji and Yair, in separate encounters in the forest areas of Budgam.
The two were members of a four-member LeT commanders group that security agencies have linked to some of the major militant attacks in Jammu and Kashmir in recent years. Officials described the killing of two commanders as a significant setback to the LeT network operating in Jammu and Kashmir.
DGP also highlighted the police’s achievements in crime prevention and detection, maintenance of law and order and security arrangements for the annual Amarnath Yatra.
Turning to the police’s youth outreach initiatives, he said the increasing participation of young people in the Kashmir Marathon reflected their commitment to a peaceful future.
“The youth of Kashmir and the residents of the whole of J&K are investing in peace over violence, progress over destruction,” Prabhat said, adding that the union Territory had “risen from darkness to light.”
J&K Police chief said the growing participation of children and youth in such events every year reflects their commitment to a peaceful and prosperous future, while sending a powerful message that attempts by a hostile neighbour to disrupt peace in Jammu and Kashmir are failing.
DGP said J&K Police was using its civic action programme and sporting activities to channelise the energy of young people towards constructive pursuits.
On the anti-drug campaign launched in April, Prabhat said 3,257 cases had been registered so far, with more than 2,500 cases disposed of and around 4,000 people arrested. He said 170 convictions had also been secured.
“If we talk about property attachment, we are number one in the whole of India at the moment,” he said.
The police chief said 288 properties worth more than Rs 138 crore had been attached in connection with drug trafficking cases, while 144 people had been booked under the Financial Investigation of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (FIT-NDPS) framework.
Prabhat also commended the J&K Armed Police and its teams for their achievements in rescue operations, mountaineering and sporting events, saying such initiatives had helped strengthen the police’s engagement with the youth.
