Jammu, June 13 (UNI) Coming tough on unauthorised SIM card distribution, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday conducted inspection of vendors across Doda district.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Doda, Sandeep Mehta here said that in a proactive initiative to enhance security and tackle issues related to unauthorized SIM card distribution, a comprehensive inspection drive was conducted targeting SIM card vendor outlets across the district.
“The initiative aims to strengthen the verification process for new SIM registrations to curb the misuse of mobile connectivity,” said the top cop.
During the inspection, he said that the vendors were directed to maintain proper records of all issued SIM cards including customer details and to follow strict KYC (Know Your Customer) protocols before issuing SIM cards.
“The vendors were also instructed to prohibit the sale of fake or pre-activated SIM cards and ensure compliance with all guidelines issued by the Department of Telecommunication (DoT),” SSP Mehta said.
He expressed that the day-long drive for 30 teams was constituted to inspect about 94 vendors throughout the District and the drive also highlighted the importance of maintaining detailed records for recharges, duplicate SIM issuance, and logs for lost or damaged SIM cards along with associated customer details.
“Vendors were warned against irregular practices and strict legal action was emphasized for any violations detected during future inspections. Some records of the SIM vendors were also taken for detailed analysis and verification,” he stated.
The District Police Chief reiterated the importance of safeguarding the integrity of the SIM issuance process to prevent potential misuse and also directed second-hand mobile sellers and mobile repair technicians to maintain proper transaction records, including customer identities, to ensure transparency and accountability.
“District Police will continue monitoring vendor activities and conducting further inspections to ensure security and compliance in telecom operations across the district,” he asserted.
