JD(U) expels MLA Anant Singh for six years over anti-party activities

Patna, Oct 24 (UNI) The Janata Dal (United) has expelled Mokama MLA Anant Singh from the party for six years, citing alleged anti-party activities. His primary membership of the party has been cancelled with immediate effect.

The action comes after Singh repeatedly spoke out against JD(U) candidate Neeraj Kumar in the Patna Graduates’ constituency election. During the election campaign, Singh openly opposed Kumar and expressed support for Jan Suraaj candidate Dr Anuj Singh.

In the notice issued on Saturday, JD(U) Bihar President Umesh Singh Kushwaha said Anant Kumar Singh had repeatedly defied party directives, used inappropriate and insulting language against the party’s top leadership, and worked against the party’s candidate in the recently concluded Legislative Council election while campaigning in favour of a candidate from another party.

“Anant Kumar Singh, MLA from Mokama, is being expelled from Janata Dal (United) for the next six years, and his primary membership of the party is being cancelled with immediate effect,” the notice stated.

The party also said it would recommend to the Speaker of the Bihar Legislative Assembly that Singh’s membership as an MLA be terminated under the Tenth Schedule of the Indian Constitution, which deals with disqualification on grounds of defection.

In a parallel move, the JD(U) has also cancelled the primary membership of Anant Singh’s wife, former MLA Neelam Devi, over alleged involvement in anti-party activities. She, too, has been expelled from the party for six years.

The twin expulsions mark a significant disciplinary move by the JD(U) against the political family, following the alleged defiance of party leadership and support for a rival candidate during the election campaign.
