Jharkhand: Asian Games hockey gold medallists meet Soren

Ranchi, Oct 4 (UNI) Members of the Indian women’s hockey team from Jharkhand, who won gold at the 2026 Asian Games, met Chief Minister Hemant Soren here today.
The players shared their experience of the team’s victory over China and said the next major target was to perform well at the Olympics, for which India have qualified.
Jharkhand player Salima Tete said defeating China after the team’s earlier loss against the same opponent in the semi-final was a special moment.
Tete said the team decided to beat China in the final and maintained its focus after taking the lead to eventually secure the gold medal. She attributed the victory to the unity of the team and the support staff.
She said meeting Soren after winning medals was encouraging and motivated the players to perform better in future competitions.
Young player Deepika Soreng said playing alongside senior players had been a valuable experience and helped her learn from them. She said the combination of senior and young players was a strength of the team.
Beauty Dungdung also highlighted the coordination between senior and junior players and said the experience of senior players helped the younger members on the field.
Nikki Pradhan said Soren congratulated the players and assured them of continued support from the state government. She said the players were also looking forward to meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Hockey Jharkhand secretary Manoj Prasad and office-bearers Vijay Shankar Singh and Rajnish Kumar were also present during the meeting.
