Mumbai, June 30 (UNI) Bollywood actress Kajol has struck gold at the box office with her latest film 'Maa' raking in over Rs 17 crore during its opening week in India.
Released on June 27, the film has captivated audiences with its emotionally charged narrative and genre-defying tone. Helmed by Vishal Furia, 'Maa' marks a dramatic shift in Kajol's on-screen persona, presenting her in a fierce role that blends maternal devotion with supernatural rage.
This film has received mixed responses from both audiences and critics. Backed by Jio Studios in association with Devgn Films, the film features Indranil Sengupta, Ronit Roy and Kherin Sharma in key roles.
Box office tracking Sacnilk, reported that 'Maa' collected Rs 4.65 crore on its opening day, followed by Rs 6 crore on the second day and closed on Sunday with Rs 6.75, bringing its total weekend collection to approximately Rs 17.4 crore.
The story of the film 'Maa' is based in modern times, where ancient powers come to the fore again. Kajol plays a mother whose boundless affection turns into divine fury when her child is endangered, embodying a dichotomy of nurturing tenderness and goddess-like vengeance.
