Kakinada civic body undertakes drain desilting amid heavy rains

Kakinada, Nov 3 (UNI) The Kakinada Municipal Corporation has intensified drain desilting and waterlogging clearance operations amid heavy rains triggered by cyclonic weather conditions to prevent inundation in low-lying areas of the city.
Municipal Commissioner NVV Satyanarayana personally supervised the operations on Tuesday and inspected the main drainage system at Mahalakshmi Nagar along with municipal engineering officials.
Proclaimers were deployed to remove silt and clear obstructions in the main drain to ensure the free flow of rainwater, an official release said.
Following complaints of rainwater overflowing onto roads in Durga Nagar and the Narayana School area, the Commissioner immediately deployed sanitation personnel to undertake special drainage clearance works.
Special teams were also sent to the RTC bus stand area, a low-lying locality where rainwater had accumulated to knee level. The teams took up water removal operations and cleared encroachments obstructing drains, he said.
The Commissioner said a special action plan had been put in place to ensure that rainwater stagnation complaints across the city were addressed within a maximum of two hours.
Deputy Commissioner K Srinivas and Health Officer Dr Prudhwicharan accompanied him during the field inspection.
