kakinada: Teachers’ MLC draft electoral rolls to be published on Nov 25

Kakinada, Oct 14 (UNI) The draft electoral rolls for the combined East and West Godavari districts Teachers’ MLC constituency will be published on November 25, with applications for voter registration accepted until November 6, District Collector M.N. Harendhira Prasad said on Wednesday.
Addressing a video conference with officials from six districts under the constituency’s jurisdiction, the Collector said objections to the draft electoral rolls would be received until December 10.
Claims and objections would be scrutinised and disposed of by December 25, and the final electoral rolls published on December 30.
The Collector said the voter registration process was being conducted under Section 27 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, and Rule 31 of the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960.
Noting that voter registration was lower than during the previous elections, he directed officials to take steps to enrol every eligible teacher.
He stressed the need for careful scrutiny of applications and claims and objections, and instructed officials to issue notices for the second publication of the electoral rolls.
To be eligible for registration, a person must have at least three years of full-time teaching experience in an eligible educational institution and be a resident of the concerned constituency.
Part-time teachers and non-teaching staff are not eligible to vote, he said.
The Collector directed officials to facilitate the registration of eligible teachers from universities, colleges, engineering colleges, Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), polytechnics and government-recognised private educational institutions.
He warned that strict action would be taken against officials who neglected their assigned duties.
Assistant Collector Priya, East and West Godavari Teachers’ Constituency Electoral Registration Officer and Kakinada District Revenue Officer Dr. D. Tippe Naik, Kakinada and Peddapuram Revenue Divisional Officers S. Mallibabu and P. Krishnamurty, District Education Officer P. Ramesh, Collectorate Election Superintendent M. Jagannadham, mandal tahsildars, Mandal Education Officers and other election officials participated in the meeting.
