Karnataka BJP to launch outreach campaign on SIR from Nov 1

Bengaluru, Oct 30 (UNI) The Karnataka unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will launch a month-long statewide outreach campaign from November 1 to counter the Congress's allegations surrounding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, targeting college students and young professionals through interactive programmes at more than 500 locations.
Announcing the initiative here on Friday, BJP MLA V Sunil Kumar said the campaign, titled 'Save Democracy, Eradicate Anarchy', would run until November 30 and involve college students, young professionals, writers, lawyers, doctors, chartered accountants and sportspersons.
The Karkala MLA said the party had planned large-scale interactive discussions with young people to counter what it described as misleading narratives being circulated about the SIR exercise.
As part of the first phase, an interaction involving around 1,000 students will be organised in Hubballi on November 3, followed by another programme at Town Hall in Bengaluru on November 5.
In the second phase, the BJP will organise interactive programmes in more than 100 colleges across Karnataka, placing students at the centre of its outreach initiative.
The third phase will extend the campaign to taluk headquarters, mandals and Assembly constituencies, bringing together young professionals and representatives from different walks of life.
Sunil Kumar alleged that the Congress had been using the SIR issue to mislead youngsters and provoke them into confrontation for political gains.
Referring to a Supreme Court observation in a case related to the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC), he said the court had cautioned against pushing young people into conflicts for political purposes, as they would ultimately bear the consequences.
He maintained that the SIR was a legally mandated exercise undertaken by the Election Commission and should not be used to create confusion among young voters.
The BJP intends to use the campaign to engage directly with students and young professionals and counter what it considers false narratives about democratic institutions and electoral processes, he said.
