Karnataka legislature's 10-day winter session to begin in Belagavi on December 7

Bengaluru, Oct 28 (UNI) The Karnataka government has decided to hold the winter session of the state legislature for 10 days from December 7 at the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha in Belagavi.
Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh, in a letter dated October 27 to Jyothi, Secretary in-charge of the Karnataka Legislative Council Secretariat, said the decision followed deliberations at the Cabinet meeting held on October 15.
The letter directed officials to undertake preliminary preparations for conducting the sessions of both Houses of the legislature at Belagavi. A formal notification is expected to be issued after the initial arrangements are completed.
The winter session is expected to provide an opportunity for the ruling Congress and the opposition BJP-JD(S) combine to debate key state issues.
Meanwhile, Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council Chalavadi Narayanaswamy criticised the Congress government over its handling of the state's finances, alleging that the government had bankrupted the state.
Demanding a white paper on the financial position, he questioned the government's ability to fund welfare schemes and provide assistance to farmers, while alleging misuse of public money.
On the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Narayanaswamy accused the Congress of opposing the exercise while imposing conditions on beneficiaries of its guarantee schemes.
The government is yet to issue the formal notification confirming the schedule of the winter session.
