Kashi’s youth and farmers will rejoice if BJP is voted out of power: Akhilesh Yadav

Varanasi, Nov 3 (UNI) Samajwadi Party (SP) national president Akhilesh Yadav launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during his visit to Varanasi on Tuesday, saying that the people of Kashi, particularly the youth and farmers, would be happier if the BJP is voted out of power.
Responding to a question about his visit to Kashi, Yadav said he had installed idols of Baba Vishwanath and Kedareshwar at his residence and never left home without offering prayers.
"We have installed Baba Vishwanath and Kedareshwar idols at home. We never leave without folding our hands and praying," he said.
Taking a swipe at the BJP, the SP chief remarked, "If the BJP is voted out of power, Kashi will smile, the youth will smile, and the farmers will smile."
Yadav also accused the BJP of exploiting religious sentiments for political gains. Referring to recent remarks concerning Lord Krishna and Lord Shri Ram, he said the statements made by those he described as "fake Sanatanis" had hurt people's sentiments across the country and the world.
Questioning the BJP's response to such remarks, he asked, "Where have the bulldozers of the Sanatani people gone? A Baba is insulting them."
He also raised concerns over the condition of Varanasi's traditional weaving community, asking why the plight of local weavers are not being addressed.
Promising infrastructure development if the Samajwadi Party returns to power, Yadav said a metro rail service would be introduced in Varanasi under an SP government. He further alleged that the BJP has forgotten its responsibilities towards the River Ganga despite the river having, in his words, called them.
Claiming internal trouble within the BJP, Yadav alleged that tickets of around 100 BJP MLAs were being cut. He linked the alleged developments to the party's poor performance in the MLC elections, referring to what he described as the BJP's "double-zero" result.
During his Varanasi visit, Yadav also reached the residence of former SP district vice-president Rajesh Yadav, popularly known as "Natthu," in Sir Govardhan. He is scheduled to meet the bereaved family and offer condolences following Rajesh Yadav's death a few days ago.
