Haryana clears Rs 424.69 crore projects, including 500 buses, Gurugram flyovers and Panipat rail bridge

Chandigarh, Nov 3 (UNI) The Haryana government has cleared nine procurement and infrastructure proposals worth Rs 424.69 crore, including the purchase of 500 new Roadways buses, construction of two flyovers and an underpass in Gurugram, and a railway overbridge in Panipat, while ordering fresh tenders for five other proposals.
The decisions were taken at meetings of the High Powered Purchase Committee (HPPC) and the High Powered Works Purchase Committee (HPWPC), chaired by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini at Haryana Niwas in Chandigarh on Monday.
The government said negotiations with bidders have brought down the combined cost of the nine approved proposals by Rs 11.96 crore from the original estimates.
Among the major decisions was the approval to purchase 500 fully built, non-air-conditioned diesel buses complying with BS-VI emission standards for Haryana Roadways.
The addition is expected to strengthen the state transport fleet and improve bus availability on various routes, particularly for passengers dependent on public transport.
The committees also cleared the purchase of 24 fully built diesel trucks and a year's supply of diesel exhaust fluid for Roadways depots and sub-depots.
In Gurugram, where traffic congestion remains a major concern for commuters, the government approved three projects proposed by the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA).
These include flyovers at the Sector 45-46 and 51-52 intersection and the Sector 85-86 and 89-90 intersection.
An underpass will also be constructed at the Sector 27-29 and 43-44 intersection to ease traffic congestion around the Millennium City Centre Metro station.
The projects are intended to reduce traffic bottlenecks and improve connectivity between major residential and commercial areas of the city.
Another significant approval concerns the construction of a railway overbridge in Panipat, parallel to the existing bridge on the route connecting GT Road to National Highway 709 via Dahar.
The project is expected to improve regional connectivity and reduce pressure on the existing road network.
The government also approved the purchase of furniture for the under-construction Sant Shiromani Shri Dhanna Bhagat Government Medical College at Haibatpur in Jind district.
In Rohtak, the remaining construction work on Type-II residential accommodation for teachers at the University of Health Sciences was cleared.
According to the government, the HPPC considered seven proposals with an estimated value of Rs 351.46 crore. While four were sent for re-tendering, three proposals originally estimated at Rs 208.91 crore were finalised for Rs 201.51 crore, resulting in savings of Rs 7.40 crore.
Similarly, the HPWPC examined seven proposals worth an estimated Rs 250.36 crore. Six works, initially valued at Rs 227.74 crore, were finalised for Rs 223.18 crore following negotiations, saving Rs 4.56 crore. The remaining proposal was sent for re-tendering.
Together, the two committees finalised nine proposals and decided to invite fresh bids for five others.
Saini directed officials to ensure that the approved projects were completed within their stipulated timelines and subjected to regular monitoring.
"There should be no compromise on quality standards in construction works," the Chief Minister said, stressing that unnecessary delays must be avoided.
He instructed departments to expedite implementation so that the benefits of the approved projects reach the public without delay.
The government, however, did not specify delivery dates for the new buses or completion schedules for the flyovers, underpass and railway overbridge.UNI KK/NB AAB
