Kerala CM condemns Centre’s move to drop Indira Gandhi’s name from welfare schemes

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 17 (UNI) Kerala Chief Minister V D Satheesan has strongly condemned the Centre’s decision to rename welfare schemes named after former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, describing it as a politically motivated move.
In a statement, Satheesan said the decision demonstrated that Indira Gandhi’s name continued to unsettle those in power.
“You may succeed in removing Indira Gandhi’s name from government records, but no regime can ever erase her memory or her invaluable contributions from the hearts and minds of the people of India,” he said.
Referring to Indira Gandhi as the country’s first woman Prime Minister, Satheesan said attempts to remove her name from government schemes would not diminish her legacy or the place she holds in the public memory.
