Kerala: KPCC president Joseph questions CPI(M) over demolition of Gandhi's statue at Malappattam

Kannur, May 18 (UNI) Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Sunny Joseph, MLA on Sunday demanded clarification on the Kannur CPI(M) district Secretariat member's announcement that the construction of Mahatma Gandhi's statue would not be allowed at Malappattam, the stronghold of the CPI(M), was the policy of the CPI(M) State committee.
He was talking to news persons here after visiting Malappattam to inspect demolition of Gandhi's statue and Youth Congress leader P R Saneesh' house allegedly by the CPI(M) workers a few days back.
He accused the CPI(M)'s action in Kannur, alleging it is encouraging violence.
He also asked whether "the statement made by the CPI(M) local leader insulting Gandhi has come to the attention of the Home department."
Sunny Joseph demanded answer from Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who also holds the portfolio of Home, as to "how democracy and civil liberties allowed by the Constitution will be implemented in Kerala."
He also accused the Malappattam police of being inactive and demanded legal action against the CPI(M) cadres for their alleged involvement in demolition of the Gandhi statue and attack on the house of Youth Congress worker Saneesh.
