Kerala State Data Policy 2026 approved

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 15 (UNI) The Kerala Cabinet has approved the draft Kerala State Data Policy 2026, which seeks to establish a state-level framework for the classification, sharing and responsible use of data generated, collected, stored or processed by government departments, offices, agencies and institutions using public funds.
The policy envisages a common data exchange platform to facilitate secure and regulated sharing of government data while improving data quality and interoperability. The Kerala State IT Mission prepared the policy, Chief Minister VD Sathesan said today.
The Cabinet sanctioned Rs 18.24 crore to purchase 152 new vehicles for the Revenue Department to replace vehicles that had completed 15 years since registration and were no longer fit for use. The allocation is Rs 12 lakh per vehicle.
The Cabinet decided to extend the period for providing bitumen price-difference compensation until April 30, 2027, in view of the extraordinary increase in bitumen prices following the West Asian conflict.
The relief measure will be applicable to all engineering departments and public sector undertakings undertaking road works, the Chief Minister said.
The Cabinet has also decided to raise the annual family income ceiling for receiving assistance from the Chief Minister's Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF) from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 3 lakh.
The authority to sanction financial assistance through the online portal has also been enhanced. The Chief Minister can approve assistance up to Rs 5 lakh, the Revenue Minister up to Rs 1 lakh, the Revenue Department Special Secretary up to Rs 50,000 and district collectors up to Rs 25,000.
