Kerala: Two youths swept away in sea in Kannur

Kannur, Jun 2 (UNI) Two youths were feared swept away in Arabian Sea at Meenkunnu near Azhikode on Monday.
According to sources in Coastal police, the incident occurred at around 4 pm, when two youths from Valiyanoor and Pattanur arrived at the Meenkunnu beach. At first they took photographs from the top of a cliff and later, they entered the sea for swimming in the rough sea at Kallakadal (not safer for swimming) site, considering strong undercurrents.
Both of them were swept away by the waves and few youths saw the incident, but they were unable to save the youths.
Later, Azhikode MLA K Sumesh rushed to the spot and monitored the search operations of coastal police.
The search operation was going on under the leadership of Coastal police, fire force and local divers, but it was suspended due to bad light at around 6.30 pm, sources added.
