Kharge’s dig at Tharoor: ‘Modi first, country next for some'

New Delhi, June 25 (UNI) In a veiled dig at Congress MP Shashi Tharoor for his repeated praise of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge today said that while the party prioritises the nation above all, “for some, Modi comes first and the country next".

Responding to a question about Shashi Tharoor’s praise for the Prime Minister, the Congress president said, “I may not understand English, but his command over the language is excellent and that’s why we have made him a member of the Congress Working Committee.”

“However, I want to emphasise that the entire Opposition stood united in support of the Army. We firmly stood with our armed forces, who were fighting the war,” Kharge said.

The Rajya Sabha Leader of Opposition said that he was the first to raise this, and had clearly said that the "nation comes above everything else, and we will all work together for it. For us, it's always 'country first, party later."

He added, that some people say it’s "Modi first, country next".
