Kirti, Sahil and Satnam celebrate Asiad success at SAI, Kolkata felicitation ceremony

Kolkata, Oct 26 (UNI) The Sports Authority of India (SAI), Kolkata, on Monday felicitated Asian Games medallists Sahil Rajesh Jadhav, Kirti Sharma and rower Satnam Singh for their performances at the 2026 edition in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
Sahil won two gold medals in archery, while Kirti was part of the Indian team that claimed gold in the women's recurve event. Satnam earned bronze in the men’s double sculls, helping India secure its first-ever Asian Games medal in the event.
The athletes were joined by their coaches at the felicitation ceremony. Haresh Kumar, who trains Sahil at SAI's National Centre of Excellence (NCOE) in Kolkata, and Udham Singh, Kirti's coach at SAI's Sports Training Centre in Hazaribagh, attended the event. Arjuna Awardee Inderpal Singh, a coach at SAI Jagatpur, was also present alongside Satnam.
Sahil, whose performance also helped India secure a quota place in the mixed compound event for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, thanked his coaches and acknowledged the role played by SAI in his success.
“I want to thank my coaches at SAI for their guidance. It is important to stay grounded and continue to work hard after achieving success,” he said.
Satnam spoke about the uncertainty he faced before the Games after being asked to compete in the double sculls instead of his preferred quadruple sculls event. Despite his initial doubts, he remained determined to make the most of the opportunity.
“I was confident of winning a medal in the men’s quadruple sculls. But in the last moment I was told to compete in the double sculls. I was not confident initially, but was determined to give my best,” he said.
India had never won an Asian Games medal in the men's double sculls before Satnam and his partner Salman Khan secured bronze in Japan. Satnam said the result could help Indian rowers approach the event with greater confidence in the future.
“We had never won a medal in that event earlier. Now that me and my partner Salman Khan have removed that psychological barrier, it has opened the road for more medals in the double sculls in the future.”
