Krishnaiah urges CM to allocate 500 acres in Miyapur for housing, student hostels

Hyderabad, Nov 1 (UNI) Rajya Sabha MP and National BC Welfare Association president R. Krishnaiah has urged Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy not to auction 500 acres of government land in Miyapur and instead utilise it for housing the homeless poor and constructing permanent buildings for student hostels and residential schools.
In a letter to the Chief Minister, Krishnaiah suggested allocating 200 acres for housing homeless and landless families, pointing out that around six lakh families in Greater Hyderabad do not own even a square yard of land and are living in rented accommodation.
Of the remaining 300 acres, he proposed allotting 100 acres for government college hostels for BC, SC and ST students and 200 acres for permanent buildings for residential schools (gurukulas).
He pointed out that around 100 BC college hostels in Greater Hyderabad and 70 BC residential schools were functioning in rented buildings, resulting in huge annual expenditure on rent.
Krishnaiah said funds could be mobilised from the Central Government, corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives and corporate organisations to construct permanent facilities.
He maintained that providing dedicated buildings would improve educational facilities and living conditions for students while reducing the government's recurring expenditure on rented premises.
Welcoming the Supreme Court's decision establishing the land as government property, he said it should be utilised for public welfare rather than auctioned.
