Lakhs of devotees witness Garuda Seva at Tirumala amid heavy rain

Tirumala, Oct 16 (UNI) Lakhs of devotees witnessed the annual Garuda Vahana Seva at Tirumala on Friday evening despite heavy rain, as pilgrims gathered along the four mada streets to have darshan of Sri Malayappa Swamy during the ongoing Srivari Navaratri Brahmotsavams.
Devotees began arriving in Tirumala from Thursday night to secure places in the galleries for the highly revered event.
Despite continuous downpour, pilgrims stood with umbrellas, raincoats and plastic sheets, chanting “Govinda, Govinda” as they waited for the procession.
Malayappa Swamy, adorned with ornaments and silk robes, was taken in a procession on the majestic golden Garuda Vahanam along the four mada streets, blessing devotees gathered on either side.
The Garuda Seva, one of the principal events of the Brahmotsavams, drew large crowds of pilgrims, including elderly people, families with children and young devotees.
The rain did not deter the devotees, who continued to wait for a glimpse of the deity.
TTD officials, police personnel, vigilance staff and Srivari Seva volunteers remained on duty to regulate crowds, ensure pilgrim safety and facilitate the smooth conduct of the procession amid the adverse weather.
Both pontiffs of Tirumala, TTD Board Chairman B.R. Naidu, Executive Officer M. Ravichandra, board members and senior officials were present during the event.
