Telangana BJP seeks immediate resolution of NHM employees’ demands

Hyderabad, Oct 16 (UNI) BJP Telangana President N. Ramchander Rao on Friday demanded that the Congress government immediately resolve the demands of National Health Mission (NHM) employees who have been protesting for better wages, job security and other benefits.
Rao expressed solidarity with the employees at a ‘Maha Dharna’ organised at Dharna Chowk near Indira Park in Hyderabad.
He criticised the state government for failing to address their grievances despite repeated representations to district collectors and senior officials.
Claiming that nearly 17,000 doctors, auxiliary nurse midwives (ANMs) and paramedical staff working at primary health centres and Basti Dawakhanas across Telangana had been affected, Rao said the employees were forced to boycott duties from October 13 after their demands went unaddressed.
He said nearly 70 per cent of the NHM workforce comprised women and alleged that employees were being denied benefits such as paid maternity leave, health and life insurance, and job security.
He also pointed to the additional clerical and administrative responsibilities reportedly assigned to healthcare personnel.
Rao said the employees’ demands included implementation of minimum wages under G.O. No. 60, revision of wages under G.O. 1195 and application of the principle of “equal pay for equal work”.
He called for the benefits to cover staff working in Ayurveda, Homeopathy and other AYUSH services as well.
Alleging delays by the state government in administering National Health Mission funds despite the Centre releasing its share on time, Rao urged the government to address the employees’ concerns.
He also criticised the use of contractual and part-time appointments in the healthcare and education sectors, and called for permanent recruitment, fair wages and improved working conditions.
Recalling the BJP’s support for junior doctors and its efforts towards an increase in AYUSH doctors’ stipends, Rao said the party would continue to support the NHM employees’ demands and urged the government to resolve the issue at the earliest.
