Launch campaign for control on mastitis in dairy animals: Manoj Singh

Lucknow, May 23 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary Manoj Singh on Friday directed to launch an intensive campaign for effective control of mastitis disease in dairy animals.
During a meeting regarding the control of mastitis, the Chief Secretary said that by preparing an action plan for extensive publicity, information about the SOP prescribed for prevention of the
disease should be conveyed to the livestock farmers.
"A policy should be formulated by the Animal Husbandry Department regarding standardisation and quality of animal feed," he said.
Emphasising on making livestock farmers aware, he said that on seeing symptoms of mastitis, livestock farmers should immediately contact the veterinary doctor.
"Also, advice should be given to keep the infected animal separate from other animals, so that the spread of the disease can be stopped," he said.
Singh also directed four universities in the state to conduct special programmes for mastitis, infertility, breed improvement and other infectious diseases and parasite control and to take necessary action to coordinate with the Animal Husbandry Department.
Earlier, Principal Secretary Animal Husbandry K Ravindra Nayak gave information regarding mastitis disease in the state that according to the veterinary facilities provided to the farmers by the mobile veterinary units and departmental veterinary hospitals operated by the department, the cases of mastitis disease are about 10 percent.
He said that the department treats the animals from time to time with CMT kits and other necessary medicines for the examination and diagnosis of subclinical and clinical mastitis disease.
Other senior officers of the Animal Husbandry Department, subject experts, Chief Veterinary Officers (CVOs) of all districts were present in the meeting through video conferencing.
