LG Sinha takes on Farooq Abdullah over remarks on Pakistan, says ‘no place for conflict entrepreneurs in J&K’

Srinagar, Oct 31 (UNI) Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday took a veiled dig at National Conference president and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah over his recent remarks about Pakistan, accusing certain elements of attempting to push Jammu and Kashmir back towards separatism, terrorism and violence.
Without naming Abdullah, Sinha said some people were unable to accept the prevailing stability, peace and progress in Jammu and Kashmir and were speaking differently about India instead of recognising its achievements on the international stage.
“Instead of talking about India, they talk about a country where people have to stand in queues for flour. Instead of recognising India's glory, which has been established on every international platform across the world, they speak differently,” Sinha said while addressing a function marking the Jammu and Kashmir union Territory Foundation Day in Srinagar.
His remarks came days after Abdullah triggered a political controversy by saying that neighbouring country was protecting the people of Kashmir by keeping the Kashmir issue alive at the international level. The BJP had termed Abdullah's remarks seditious and demanded an apology.
Responding to what appeared to be a reference to such statement, Sinha said there are people in Jammu and Kashmir who wanted to push the region back towards separatism, terrorism and violence.
“I want to tell them: understand this, because it is extremely important. There are several such people in Jammu and Kashmir, and these are the very people who want to push the region back towards separatism, terrorism and violence,” he said.
The Lieutenant Governor said the people of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly those in the Kashmir Valley, had now recognised such elements.
“I am happy that the common people of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly the people of the Kashmir Valley, have now recognised the faces of such people very well,” he said, adding that ordinary citizens and young people were increasingly questioning those whom they believed had caused immense damage to the region.
Sinha said the transformation in Jammu and Kashmir is not limited to changing circumstances but has also brought about a shift in the thinking and aspirations of people across generations.
Referring to the change in the security environment, Sinha said families in the Kashmir Valley, who once feared the onset of evening, could now see their children stepping out late at night without fear.
The LG, however, warned against attempts to revive militancy, asserting that terrorism would not be allowed another opportunity to flourish in Jammu and Kashmir.
“Now, no one will be allowed to give terrorism another opportunity to flourish in this soil. I want to warn that whoever attempts to do so will meet the same fate that has rightly been reserved for such people,” he said.
He said the security forces and Jammu and Kashmir Police were committed to eliminating the remaining elements of terrorism at the earliest.
Sinha also accused those who had built their political and economic survival around separatism and conflict of having been exposed.
“Those whose survival depended on separatism and the conflict industry have now been exposed and rendered unemployed. There is no place for these conflict entrepreneurs in Jammu and Kashmir anymore,” he said.
Assuring people that their peace and progress would be protected, Sinha said anyone attempting to disrupt their quality of life, development and tranquillity would face severe consequences.
Sinha described the abrogation of Article 370 and 35A in 2019 as major milestones in the history of independent India, saying the decision opened new avenues of equality, peace and development in Jammu and Kashmir.
Sinha said the abrogation of Article 370 lit a new ray of hope in the lives of ordinary citizens and opened doors to equal rights and development.
“I salute our farmers, teachers, security forces, workers, youth and women who are shaping a self-reliant future of the union Territory. The transformation of Jammu Kashmir since 2019 reflects the power of peace, development, equal rights and good governance. Together, let us strengthen unity, opportunity and prosperity for every citizen,” he said.
