Maha: Army jawan Gaikar cremated with militry honours in Ahilyanagar

Ahilyanagar, May 24 (UNI) The mortal remains of the brave soldier Sandeep Pandurang Gaikar, who sacrificed his life while fighting against terrorists on Thursday, was cremated with military honours at Brahmanwada village in Akole taluka of the district on Saturday morning.
Martyr soldier Sandeep Gaikar was with the Maratha Battalion of the Army for last six to seven years. He was deployed on duty on the border in Kishtwar sector of Jammu and Kashmir, where terrorists opened fire on a group of 10 soldiers on Thursday morning.
In this attack, Sandeep Gaikar fought till his last breath while standing for the protection of the country.
He is survived by his parents, wife and a daughter.
Upon hearing the news of his heroic death, a wave of mourning spread in the village.
The body of Sandeep Gaikar was brought to Brahmanwada village in Akole taluka on May 23.
Arrangements were made for his funeral in the premises of Sahyadri Vidyalaya, where Sandeep Gaikar studied.
Later, Sandeep Gaikar's mortal remains were cremated with military honours. A large crowd had gathered to pay their last respects to the brave soldier.
Thousands of citizens bid farewell to the brave soldier with tears in their eyes.
